unemployment

Okay hold still, this won’t hurt a bit.

Spent day with my brother talking about school. I’m taking the plunge. Well, I’ve found the pool at least, haven’t exactly tested the water yet. I’ve asked a school to consider me. I haven’t done that in a while. I have gone to schools to check out programs and have been greatly unsatisfied with what I’d been seeing, or more honestly - greatly unsatisfied with what I was feeling about the programs themselves, and how I’d fit into them.

I’ve been hashing out What I Want To Do when I Grow Up for a really long time. Too long. I’ve taken quite a few assessment and aptitude tests which all suggest the same list of things — the most interesting seemed too out of my league. If they all same the same thing, perhaps I should consider them more closely. Tackle my fears of failure and push myself through my own self doubt.

I talked to my mom about it back in June, at the time I felt quite self conscious about what she might say. I was afraid she’d ask me subtle backhanded insulting questions about my intellect or preparedness. Instead she was supportive and offered encouragement. Okay, so that was 3 months ago, I just two days ago talked with B about it. While talking with him, I again felt self conscience about it — because the field of study is so completely unrelated to anything I’ve ever done, or have enjoyed previously, it’s not creative work and is very demanding. He too was very supportive and encouraging. When I talked to Todd about it today he was instantly helpful with encouragement and information. I feel insanely resolved to finally say out loud to my immediate family my goals.

I have a short list of plans to attend to this week with visits to a school for more information. There are three local schools up for consideration. They all have long waiting lists for the program - and I have some prereqs to handle. When I know more, I’ll tell more.

Couple nights ago, at dinner with Bs family, the topic of vocational aptitude came up. I told them that every vocational aptitude assessment I’ve ever taken has proclaimed clergy. I’ve always thought this was hilarious.

I found this test on the the Washington WorkSource website

The rest of the list is really long - here are comments from the two groups I scored highest in

Your score for this category is 30 out of a possible score of 30.

People with Social interests like work activities that assist others and promote learning and personal development. They prefer to communicate more than to work with objects, machines, or data. They like to teach, to give advice, to help, or otherwise be of service to people.
